Parent Socialization And The Retro Wife
In the two article "Parent Socialization" by D. Terri Heath and "The Retro Wife" by Lisa Miller. Both authors from these two different article talks about socialization and socialization is the process through which people learn their culture, norms, values, beliefs and appropriate behaviors; this all starts from home your parents teach you these norms and you'll always carry that on with you while growing up. In the article Parent Socialization they explain the differences of each parents from different race on how they raise there kids as in punishing them for example, Mexican American mothers in the United States, mothers in both groups chose corporal punishment as their last choice of control method when their children misbehaved. Therefore, no cultural differences were apparent, meaning that Mexican American mother has there own norms/ morals on raising their kids. In the article The Retro Wife authors states about how the mothers does all the work in the house, take care and watch the kids while the father is at work. However, even if the mother was to have a job it really won't be a stable job, because the women always minimum wage the woman. In chapter six in the text book it speaks about the family and the norms/ morals, how media are showing kids certain bad influence things, but socialization all comes from what you know learn and carry on in your life while you growing up and what your parents had thaught you.
